Finite Element Analysis (FEA): Self Loading Mixture – CABIN – ROPS – FOPS

Project Scope

  • Perform finite element analysis (FEA) to evaluate deflection behavior of the SLM cabin structure

  • Primary objective: Minimize the risk of a seat-belted operator being crushed during rollover or falling object events

Business Challenges

  • FOPS Compliance: Impact energy requirement of 11,600 J (Level II) as per ISO 3449:2005, based on drop height and mass

  • ROPS Compliance: Evaluation of cabin strength under lateral, vertical, and longitudinal forces, including energy absorption, as defined in ISO 3471:2008

ARi’s Solutions

  • Cabin model meshed with shell elements (primarily quadrilateral)

  • For FOPS analysis, surface loads applied at the DLV (Deflection Limiting Volume) area on the cabin and machine frame

  • For ROPS analysis, sequential load cases applied to simulate real-world force directions

ARi’s Value Proposition

  • Design Gaps Identified: Early FEA analysis highlighted key design and manufacturing issues, enabling proactive corrections

  • Cost & Time Savings: Avoided prototype iterations, reducing development time and testing costs

  • On-Time Delivery: Delivered ahead of schedule, working through holidays to meet the customer’s critical deadline

  • Compliance & Safety: Ensured ISO compliance, accelerating certification and reducing the risk of rework
