Marine Hybrid Propulsion System Testing for Leading Off-Highway OEM
Project Scope
A leading off-highway OEM trusted us to handle their Marine Hybrid Propulsion system testing project, during which we managed the testing activity right from CAD design, procurement, fabrication, assembly and testing.
Business Challenges
- The entire project was to be completed in 12 months hence we needed to do meticulous planning and have seamless coordination with all stakeholders
- The Marine Hybrid Propulsion system was tested in-house after several standalone trials where individual components were tested for durability. All the components of the hybrid system needed to be assembled on a single skid for final testing and validation
ARi’s Solutions
- ARi’s core team of engineers planned the project & worked closely with the customer to make detailed measurements & instructions to assemble the engine, clutch, MGU, propeller shaft and Dyno on a common base
- The engine exhaust, cooling connections for the dyno were intricately designed and instrumentation for temperature and pressure measurements were installed
- Test cycles closely replicating tugboat propulsion cycles were developed and tested. Battery packs were installed in a Container outside the test cell
ARi’s Value Proposition
The Marine hybrid propulsion system was successfully developed and tested in one year. Customer was able to demonstrate significant fuel savings in ECO mode where the battery packs supply power to the MGU to propel the boat during periods of high acceleration.
